Role of Diet in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
By Université Sorbonne Paris Cité
While not at the forefront of medical research into IBD, there is evidence to suggest that dietary concerns should be taken seriously by researchers. In a 2016 article addressing this topic, Ruemmele FM suggests that particular diets (high protein, high sugar & low fiber) typically prevalent in western countries may be worsening conditions. He concludes that current evidence for dietary changes is strictly anadodical which has undermined this consideration in treatments. Ruemmele contends that there needs to be a greater push toward serious academic research and trials as they relate to diet for IBD patients.
