Coping Strategies Used by Adult Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

While little is known about the full extent of the coping styles of patients with Inflammatory bowel disease; a study was conducted to further understand these strategies, and the impact they make on the overall quality of life of adult sufferers. The methods included in this study were confrontive, evasive, optimistic and adaptive styles of coping, as they were among the most widely used amongst patients. The findings demonstrated a higher quality of life for patients who used adaptive coping styles, compared to those who used a maladaptive approach.
